Make sure you have the correct Buccaneer Bay. This article covers Buccaneer Bay Waterpark inside Buccaneer State Park in Waveland, Mississippi. It is not Buccaneer Bay at Weeki Wachee Springs in Florida and not Buccaneer Bay at Splash! La Mirada in California.

What Is Buccaneer Bay Waterpark?

Buccaneer Bay is a 4.5-acre seasonal outdoor waterpark inside Buccaneer State Park on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It combines a large wave pool, two major slide-tower rides, an interactive family pool, toddler water play, sun deck, concessions and cabanas with the camping and outdoor recreation of a Mississippi state park.

🌊

Major Wave Pool

Pirate’s Lagoon holds about 460,000 gallons and covers roughly 17,400 square feet.

🛝

Big Slides

Pirate’s Plunge and Pirate’s Plank descend from a roughly 40-foot slide tower.

🏕️

Stay Overnight

Buccaneer State Park also operates extensive RV and camping facilities directly around the recreation area.

Planning advantage: this park can work as either a simple day-trip waterpark or part of a longer Mississippi Gulf Coast camping trip. Decide which experience you want before comparing ticket and campground costs.

Buccaneer Bay Waterpark Ticket Prices 2026

Buccaneer Bay uses height-based pricing rather than simply adult and child ticket categories. The official 2026 waterpark page lists the following rates.

Ticket Type 2026 Price Eligibility Best Use
Full-Day Admission $21 Over 48 inches Standard all-day taller-guest admission.
Full-Day Admission $15 Under 48 inches Standard shorter-guest admission.
Twilight 4–6 PM $13 Over 48 inches Short late-day visit.
Twilight 4–6 PM $11 Under 48 inches Short late-day visit for smaller guests.
Group Rate $18 Over 48″, groups of 50+ Large organized groups.
Group Rate $13 Under 48″, groups of 50+ Large organized groups.
Individual Season Pass $60 Per person Repeat visits during the season.
Season-Pass Replacement $10 Replacement pass Lost/damaged season pass.
Young-child pricing: the official 2026 Buccaneer Bay waterpark fee list does not separately publish a “2 and under” or “3 and under free” waterpark ticket category. Do not assume the state-park entrance exemption automatically applies to the waterpark wristband. Call 228-467-3822 if you need pricing for a very young child.

Buccaneer State Park Entrance Fee

Buccaneer State Park separately lists a general park entrance fee of $2 per person, with children age 5 and younger free. Because the official pages list the state-park entrance fee and waterpark rates separately, confirm at the park whether the $2 park fee applies in addition to your specific Buccaneer Bay admission transaction.

Budget correctly: treat the $21 or $15 waterpark admission as the main waterpark price, then allow for any applicable state-park entrance charge, food, cabanas and your own inner tubes.

Official check: MDWFP Buccaneer Bay Waterpark fees .

Buccaneer Bay Family Ticket Calculator

Calculate the published waterpark admission for your group. The optional state-park entrance line is shown separately because the official pages do not clearly state whether every waterpark visitor pays that fee in addition to waterpark admission.

Calculator scope: uses the official $21/$15 full-day and $13/$11 twilight waterpark rates. Food, cabanas, camping and other purchases are not guessed.
Estimated admission total
$72.00
2 guests over 48″ + 2 under 48″.
Waterpark admission: $72.00

Buccaneer Bay Waterpark Hours & 2026 Calendar

Buccaneer Bay did not operate daily for the entire season. The 2026 schedule shifted from daily summer operation to weekends-only after late July.

2026 Dates Open Days Hours Planning Note
May 23 – July 26 Daily 10 AM–6 PM Main summer season.
July 27 – July 31 No regular public waterpark days listed — Transition between daily and weekend schedule.
August 1 – September 7 Saturday & Sunday, plus Labor Day schedule 10 AM–6 PM Late-season weekends only.
September 7 Labor Day Final 2026 season date 2026 season complete.
🕙

Main Hours

Published waterpark operating hours were 10 AM–6 PM.

🌆

Twilight Admission

Reduced-price admission was available during the final 4 PM–6 PM window.

📅

Seasonal Only

Do not drive to Buccaneer Bay during fall, winter or spring assuming the waterpark follows Buccaneer State Park’s year-round hours.

Important difference: Buccaneer State Park itself lists general park-office/day-use hours, but those are not the same as Buccaneer Bay Waterpark hours. Waterpark operation is seasonal.

Buccaneer Bay Rides, Slides & Pools

Buccaneer Bay is compact enough for families to understand quickly, but it has distinct zones for thrill riders, younger kids and people who mainly want a wave-pool or lounge day.

🌊

Pirate’s Lagoon Wave Pool

460,000 gallons 17,400 sq ft

The headline pool can generate several wave patterns ranging from rolling surf to larger wave action.

MDWFP describes waves reaching roughly 6 feet under certain settings.
🛝

Pirate’s Plunge

425 feet Body slide

A long twisting body slide descending from the park’s roughly 40-foot tower.

Best attempted earlier in the day if this is your group’s priority.
🏴‍☠️

Pirate’s Plank

375 feet Enclosed

A fully enclosed slide experience from the main slide tower.

Check the attraction rule board before queuing.
💦

Splash Island

5,000 sq ft pool Family

Includes three smaller waterslides, water cannons, interactive features and two large tipping buckets.

Six rental cabanas are located around this area.
👶

Lil’ Smuggler’s Cove

12-inch water Toddlers

A shallow tot area designed for children who are still becoming comfortable around water.

Includes sprays and tipping-water features.
☀️

Treasure Island

10,000 sq ft Sun deck

Large deck and lounge area useful when part of the family needs a break from swimming.

A practical meeting-point option if your group separates.
Do not invent a 48-inch ride minimum from the ticket prices. The park sells admission using over/under-48-inch categories, but that does not mean every slide uses 48 inches as its ride requirement. Follow each attraction’s posted safety sign and staff instructions.

Is Buccaneer Bay Good for Younger Kids?

Yes. Unlike a park centered only on large slide towers, Buccaneer Bay includes two lower-intensity family zones: Splash Island and Lil’ Smuggler’s Cove.

For Toddlers & New Swimmers

  • Start at Lil’ Smuggler’s Cove.
  • The published water depth is approximately 12 inches.
  • Keep an adult close even in shallow water.
  • Build in shade and hydration breaks.

For Elementary-Age Kids

  • Start at Splash Island.
  • Use the three smaller slides and interactive play features.
  • Move to the wave pool only when swimming ability fits.
  • Check posted slide rules before promising bigger rides.
Family strategy: if you have teens plus small children, set a fixed meeting place before the thrill riders head toward Pirate’s Plunge and Pirate’s Plank. Treasure Island or a clearly identified cabana can work better than trying to find each other around the wave pool.

Families comparing another pirate-themed Southern waterpark can also use our Pirates Bay Leesburg, Alabama ticket and family guide to compare admission, splash areas, cabanas and height-based planning.

Bring Your Own Inner Tube

This is one of the most important 2026 Buccaneer Bay changes to know before arriving.

Buccaneer Bay no longer rents or provides inner tubes. MDWFP specifically tells visitors to bring their own if they want an inner tube for Pirate’s Lagoon Wave Pool.
🛟 Pack before driving

Do not plan to arrive and automatically rent a tube at the waterpark.

📏 Confirm suitability

Use an appropriate swimming tube and follow current pool rules.

🌊 Wave-pool use

The tube is mainly relevant to the large Pirate’s Lagoon wave pool.

Buccaneer Bay Cabanas & Shade

Splash Island includes six rental cabanas. MDWFP describes the cabanas as including useful comfort features such as a fan, seating, table and electrical outlet.

🪑

Seating

Cabanas provide a fixed family base rather than relying only on open pool-deck seating.

💨

Fan

Particularly useful during a hot Mississippi Gulf Coast afternoon.

🔌

Electrical Outlet

Helpful for permitted devices and family comfort needs.

Cabana price: the current public MDWFP waterpark page describes the six cabanas but does not publish a reliable 2026 rental price in the information reviewed. Call 228-467-3822 rather than relying on an old third-party cabana rate.

Sea Dog Galley, Food & Party Rules

The on-site Sea Dog Galley provides food and drinks near the waterpark and wave-pool area.

🍕 Pizza

Listed among the primary family meal options.

🍔 Burgers

Available with other quick-service food.

🌭 Hot Dogs

Another simple kid-friendly option.

🍗 Chicken Nuggets

Listed by the official waterpark page.

🧀 Nachos

Snack-style option between swim sessions.

🥤 Drinks

Various beverages and souvenir drink options may be available.

Crow’s Nest Party Pavilion

Crow’s Nest is an open-air pavilion inside Buccaneer Bay that can accommodate roughly 50 guests.

  • Outside food and beverages are not permitted at this pavilion.
  • Sea Dog Galley catering is available.
  • Birthday cakes are allowed.
  • Gift bags are allowed.
MDWFP pages contain slightly different wording about Crow’s Nest availability—one describes it as first-come, first-served while the broader state-park page advises contacting the park for pavilion reservations. For a birthday or organized event, call before relying on walk-up availability.

Camping at Buccaneer State Park

Buccaneer Bay is unusual because families can combine the waterpark with an overnight state-park stay rather than booking a separate hotel across town.

🚐

Premium Campsites

Buccaneer State Park lists more than 200 established camping sites with utility options across several campground loops.

🌅

Gulf View Sites

Newer premium sites overlook the Mississippi Gulf Coast and provide water, sewer and 30/50-amp electric service.

🚿

Campground Facilities

Bathhouses, hot showers and 24-hour coin-operated laundry support longer stays.

Do not assume camping includes waterpark admission. The official state-park page treats camping reservations and Buccaneer Bay waterpark fees as separate products. Confirm the exact inclusions of your reservation before budgeting the trip.

If combining overnight lodging with a waterpark is your main goal, compare the setup with the campground and lake options described in our Nashville Shores Waterpark and campground planning guide .

What Else Can You Do at Buccaneer State Park?

The waterpark does not have to fill every hour of your Mississippi Gulf Coast visit. Buccaneer State Park also lists several non-waterpark activities.

🥏 Disc Golf

Jackson’s Ridge is an 18-hole, par-3 course.

🥾 Nature Trail

Pirate’s Alley is a roughly 1.8-mile self-guided trail.

🛝 Playground

Large play area near Pavilion 3.

🏊 Castaway Cove

Separate campground activity-pool option with its own schedule.

Separate Activity Pool Fee

MDWFP’s 2026 waterpark fee information also lists a separate general pool fee of $6 for ages 13+ and $4 for ages 3–12. Do not confuse that fee with the $21/$15 Buccaneer Bay waterpark admission.

Setting Mississippi Gulf Coast
Do not blindly follow GPS coordinates. MDWFP warns that some navigation systems send visitors toward South Street, which is not an entrance to Buccaneer State Park. Use the official entrance address: 1150 South Beach Boulevard.

Coming From Alabama / East

  1. Take I-10 toward the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
  2. Use the MS-43/603 Exit 13 toward Bay St. Louis/Picayune.
  3. Continue south on MS-603.
  4. Cross US-90 onto Nicholson Avenue.
  5. Continue to Beach Boulevard.
  6. Turn right and follow Beach Boulevard to the park entrance.

  4. Use Lakeshore Road toward Beach Boulevard.
  5. Follow Beach Boulevard to Buccaneer State Park.

Best Buccaneer Bay First-Hour Plan

A little structure matters because the waterpark only operated for eight hours per normal 2026 day and the two major slides can become higher-priority attractions for thrill riders.

Before 10
Arrive with tickets/budget and tubes already planned. Do not waste the first part of your visit discovering that the waterpark no longer rents inner tubes.
At entry
Choose your family base. Pick Treasure Island seating, your cabana or another obvious landmark before children split toward different attractions.
First hour
Thrill riders start with Pirate’s Plunge and Plank. Younger kids can begin at Splash Island or Lil’ Smuggler’s Cove.
Late morning
Regroup at Pirate’s Lagoon. Use the wave pool as the shared family attraction after slides.
Lunch
Use Sea Dog Galley before everyone becomes exhausted. A slightly earlier meal can make the second half of the day easier with small children.
Afternoon
Repeat favorites or use state-park activities. Campers can move toward the playground, nature trail or other recreation after a long water session.
Before 6
Finish final rides before closing. Do not treat 6 PM as the time to begin another long cross-park plan.

Full-Day Ticket or Twilight Ticket?

Full-Day Visit

Better for First-Time Families

Full-day admission gives enough time to use the two large slides, wave pool, Splash Island, toddler area and meal breaks without rushing.

  • $21 over 48″.
  • $15 under 48″.
  • Best for visitors driving from outside Hancock County.
  • Better value if the waterpark is the day’s main destination.
4–6 PM Twilight

Better for Nearby Visitors

Twilight can work for locals, campers who already spent most of the day elsewhere, or repeat visitors who know exactly which attractions they want.

  • $13 over 48″.
  • $11 under 48″.
  • Only about two hours of waterpark time.
  • Not ideal for a first visit after a long drive.
Simple value check: for a taller guest, twilight saved $8 compared with full-day admission in 2026. Decide whether that savings is worth giving up roughly six hours of possible park time.
