What Is Big Sky Waterpark?

Big Sky Waterpark is an outdoor seasonal family waterpark in Columbia Falls, Montana, positioned between Kalispell, Whitefish and Glacier National Park. The official park promotes 10 waterslides, a large whirl pool, children’s activity pool, miniature golf, bumper cars and other seasonal attractions.

🌊

Water Attractions

The park includes speed slides, body slides, river-style attractions and family water-play options.

⛳

Dry Activities

Mini golf, Krazy Kars, Water Wars and a ropes-course offering give families alternatives to nonstop swimming.

🏔️

Glacier Country Location

The park is about 16 miles north of Kalispell and about 8 miles east of Whitefish on Highway 2.

Useful travel angle: Big Sky Waterpark can work especially well as a lighter family day between more demanding hiking, driving and sightseeing days around Glacier National Park.

Big Sky Waterpark Ticket Prices 2026

Big Sky uses height-based day-ticket pricing rather than simply adult and child admission. Seniors age 60+ use the same published rate as guests under 48 inches.

2026 Ticket Under 48″ / Senior 60+ 48″ & Taller Non-Rider
Full-Day Pass $45 $55 $45
Twilite Pass after 3 PM $38 $45 $38
Age 2 & Under Free — —
Full-day bonus: Big Sky’s current admission page says a full-day ticket includes one round of mini golf plus access to the ropes course when that attraction is available. The ropes course was listed as opening in July and subject to availability.

What Is a Non-Rider Ticket?

Big Sky defines a non-rider as a spectator who does not use the waterslides or hot tub. A non-rider supervising a small child may use the wading pool.

The park lists the normal non-rider admission first, then provides a $10 refund when the non-rider leaves with the wristband still attached and dry.

Do not cut off the non-rider wristband. The $10 spectator refund depends on returning it attached and dry at the end of the visit.

Can You Save With a Coupon?

The official 2026 admission page promotes a printable $4 admission coupon. Big Sky also lists AAA/AMA and active-duty military discounts. Check the exact current coupon terms before relying on a discount in your family budget.

Military Discount

Big Sky says an active military member and immediate family can receive $4 off admission with active military ID.

Birthday Admission

The official pricing page states that the birthday person can be admitted free when hosting a birthday visit at the park with at least three paying guests, subject to the park’s current birthday terms.

Big Sky Waterpark Family Cost Calculator

This calculator uses the published 2026 admission rates. It does not invent food, tax, transportation or optional-attraction costs.

Not included: concessions, transportation, optional dry-attraction charges, souvenirs and any taxes/fees not explicitly published in the current admission table.
Estimated admission total
$200.00
Example for 2 guests 48″+ and 2 under 48″.

Big Sky Waterpark Hours 2026

Big Sky did not operate every day of the week during 2026. The official calendar is much more useful than assuming “summer means daily operation.”

2026 Period Open Days Hours Important Detail
Opening Weekend June 20–21 11 AM–6 PM Opening weekend was listed as subject to change.
June 24–28 Wednesday–Sunday 11 AM–6 PM Monday and Tuesday were closed.
July Generally Wednesday–Sunday 11 AM–6 PM Mondays and Tuesdays were closed.
Aug. 1–23 Generally Wednesday–Sunday 11 AM–6 PM Monday and Tuesday closures continued.
Aug. 24–28 Closed — Do not assume normal late-August weekday operation.
Final Day Saturday, Aug. 29 11 AM–Close Official calendar did not list a numeric closing time.
2026 season is over. September 2026 is listed as closed. Do not use these operating dates as a future-season calendar.

Why Monday and Tuesday Matter

Big Sky’s FAQ specifically tells visitors that the park is closed Mondays and Tuesdays and directs guests to the official calendar. This is one of the most important details for Glacier-area travelers, because a vacation itinerary can easily place a waterpark day on a closed weekday.

Big Sky Waterpark Season Pass Prices 2026

Season-pass pricing changes depending on when the pass is purchased. The current official 2026 admission page lists the following May and June purchase rates.

Purchase Month Age 3–10 Age 11+
May 2026 $179.95 $199.95
June 2026 $229.95 $259.95
Different pricing system: day tickets are based mainly on height, while 2026 season-pass pricing is based on age.

Big Sky says season passes can be arranged using its order form or by phone at 406-892-5025. Always use the current year’s form rather than an old PDF found through search results.

Big Sky Waterpark Group Rates 2026

Group pricing starts at 20 people. Larger groups receive slightly lower per-person rates.

Group Size Height Full Day Twilite
20–35 48″+ $51 $41
Under 48″ $41 $34
36–50 48″+ $50 $40
Under 48″ $40 $33
51+ 48″+ $49 $39
Under 48″ $39 $32

Non-riders in qualifying groups can also use the park’s $10 wristband-return discount when the wristband remains attached and dry.

Big Sky Waterpark Slides & Attractions

Big Sky is built around a hillside layout, so expect stairs and elevation changes for major slides rather than one compact flat splash-pad-style facility.

⚡

Geronimo Speed Slide

Thrill 48″ minimum

Geronimo is the park’s seven-story speed-slide attraction and one of the most important rides to check first for older children and thrill seekers.

Published height: riders must be at least 48 inches.
🌀

Twister Slides

4 body slides

Four twisting body slides descend the hillside and finish in an approximately four-foot catch pool.

Check the posted rider restrictions at the park.
🌊

Big Splash River Ride

River ride

A faster river-style water attraction promoted as a rapids experience rather than a calm lazy river.

Check current tube/rider rules before entering the line.
🛟

Shredder Xtreme

Family thrill

Big Sky describes Shredder Xtreme as a family thrill ride, making it useful for groups that want a shared attraction rather than only single-rider slides.

Posted rider and weight limits control on the day.
🧒

Kids’ Activity Pool

Younger visitors

A lower-intensity option for children who are not ready for Big Sky’s major hillside slides.

Free life jackets are available for toddlers and non-swimmers.
♨️

Whirl Pool

Pool attraction

Big Sky’s homepage lists a large whirl pool among the main water attractions.

Non-rider rules specifically prohibit spectator use of the hot tub.
⛳

Miniature Golf

Full-day inclusion

One mini-golf round is included with the current published full-day ticket.

Useful as a dry break from repeated swimming.
🚗

Krazy Kars

Dry attraction

Big Sky also operates bumper-car-style Krazy Kars. Verify current inclusion or additional cost at the park.

Current admission wording only explicitly includes mini golf and ropes-course access with full-day admission.
🎈

Water Wars

Dry / splash activity

Water-balloon battles add another activity outside the main slide circuit.

Ask about current pricing or participation details on arrival.
Do not assume every attraction has the same restriction. Big Sky states that some rides use a 48-inch minimum and that maximum height or weight rules can also apply. Posted attraction signage controls the actual ride.

Important Swimsuit Rule Before You Leave Home

No metal on slide-contact areas. Big Sky specifically warns against swimsuits with metal snaps, rivets or buttons on riding surfaces because they can damage waterslides.

Choose a simple swimsuit without metal hardware that could contact the slide. This is especially important for board shorts, decorative swim trunks and suits with exposed fasteners.

Is Big Sky Waterpark Good for Younger Children?

Yes, but the value depends heavily on height. Big Sky’s major thrill attractions are not all suitable for smaller children, while the activity pool and family attractions give younger visitors alternatives.

Age 2 & Under

Free Admission

Children age 2 and younger are admitted free under the 2026 admission policy.

Under 48″

Lower Ticket Price

Guests under 48 inches pay the lower height-based day rate, but some major slides remain unavailable.

Non-Swimmers

Free Life Jackets

Big Sky provides life jackets for toddlers and non-swimmers free of charge.

Parent strategy: measure children before buying around a particular thrill ride. Geronimo specifically requires 48 inches, and other attractions may use their own height, weight or rider requirements.

Big Sky Waterpark Lockers & Valuables

Big Sky’s locker policy is unusually visitor-friendly: lockers themselves are free.

Locker
Free

Use available lockers for phones, wallets, keys and clothing.

Lock Rental
$5 + $5 deposit

Locks can be rented from the gift shop. The official FAQ lists a $5 rental charge plus a $5 deposit.

Bringing your own suitable lock can remove the need to handle the rental/deposit process after arrival.

Food, Coolers & Picnic Rules

Big Sky is notably more flexible about food than many commercial waterparks.

🥪

Outside Food Allowed

Guests may bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks into the park.

🔥

Public Gas Grills

Big Sky says gas barbecues are provided for public use and kept operating during the day.

🍔

Concessions Available

Park concessions sell items such as sodas, snow cones, pretzels, nachos, hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cream.

No alcohol. Big Sky allows guests to bring food and drinks, but alcoholic beverages are not permitted.

Family Budget Tip

Families traveling through Glacier country can reduce the total day cost by packing lunch and drinks instead of relying completely on concession purchases. Use the provided picnic/barbecue facilities only according to current on-site rules.

Lifeguards, First Aid & Water Safety

Big Sky states that trained lifeguards are on duty and that the park has a staffed, equipped first-aid station.

🛟 Lifeguards

Trained waterpark lifeguards staff aquatic areas.

🦺 Life Jackets

Free jackets are available for toddlers and non-swimmers.

➕ First Aid

The park says its first-aid station is staffed and equipped.

Lifeguards are an additional safety layer—not a substitute for direct parent or guardian supervision, particularly with toddlers and weak swimmers.

Big Sky Waterpark Rain & Lightning Policy

Montana summer weather can change quickly, and Big Sky’s operating policy is especially important because this is an outdoor park.

🌧️

Cold / Rainy Opening

Big Sky may remain closed on extremely cold or rainy mornings, particularly around the 11 AM opening period.

👥

25 Paying Guests

If the park opens, its FAQ says at least 25 paying guests are needed for it to remain open.

⚡

Lightning

Guests are removed from the water during lightning and thunder conditions.

20-Minute Lightning Rule

Big Sky says guests can return to the water after 20 minutes without visible lightning or audible thunder.

What If the Park Closes After You Paid?

If poor conditions force the park to close—often by around 1 PM under the described weather procedure—Big Sky says guests who paid admission may receive a day pass to return on a better day.

Glacier-trip tip: if the morning looks unusually cold and rainy, call 406-892-5025 before driving from Kalispell, Whitefish or Glacier National Park.

Accessibility Planning

Big Sky’s official FAQ says handicap access has been addressed throughout the park and describes the facility as user-friendly. However, the public pages reviewed for this guide do not provide a detailed attraction-by-attraction transfer guide.

Before traveling: if a guest needs a specific mobility transfer, accessible changing arrangement, ride-access procedure or other accommodation, call the park at 406-892-5025 and ask about the exact attraction.

Are Dogs or Pets Allowed?

Big Sky states that only registered service animals are allowed inside the waterpark because of health concerns.

The FAQ also says shaded parking is available and guests can exit and re-enter to check on pets left outside the park.

Summer vehicle warning: leaving an animal in a parked vehicle can become dangerous rapidly, even when some shade is available. Make safe pet-care arrangements before planning a long waterpark visit.

Big Sky Waterpark Parking

The official FAQ says adequate parking is available for waterpark visitors.

The current official FAQ does not publish a separate parking price in its visitor information. Because the park does not explicitly list a current parking charge on the pages reviewed here, this guide does not invent one.

Big Sky Waterpark & Glacier National Park Trip Planning

Big Sky’s Highway 2 location makes it relevant to families staying in Whitefish, Columbia Falls or Kalispell while exploring northwest Montana.

After Hard Hiking Days

Use It as a Recovery Day

A waterpark day can provide children with a change of pace between long drives and trail-heavy Glacier days.

Weather Decision

Check Morning Conditions

A cold, wet mountain morning can affect outdoor waterpark operation, so verify before changing your sightseeing plan.

Opening Days

Avoid Monday / Tuesday

In 2026 the regular schedule generally closed the park on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Do not overpack one day. Trying to complete a major Glacier National Park sightseeing route and then get full value from a $45–$55 waterpark ticket can make both experiences feel rushed. A dedicated waterpark day or after-3-PM Twilite plan is usually easier to manage.

Best First-Time Big Sky Waterpark Day Plan

Before leaving
Verify that the park is actually open. Check both the exact calendar date and morning weather before leaving Whitefish, Kalispell or Glacier country.
10:30 AM
Arrive before the normal 11 AM opening. Organize tickets, sunscreen, food and swim gear before children start asking to run toward the slides.
First hour
Do the highest-priority slides. Riders who meet the 48-inch threshold should consider Geronimo early if it is one of their must-do attractions.
Mid-morning
Switch to family rides. Use Shredder, Twisters or other attractions appropriate to your group’s height and comfort level.
Lunch
Use the flexible picnic policy. Eat the food you packed or use park concessions. Do not bring alcohol.
Afternoon
Use the included mini golf. A dry break can help children reset after hours of slides, stairs and swimming.
Final hour
Repeat favorites instead of crossing the whole park. Retrieve locker items with enough time to avoid rushing at closing.

9 Big Sky Waterpark Mistakes to Avoid

1. Showing up Monday or Tuesday

Those were regular closed days during much of 2026.

2. Ignoring height before buying

Several attractions use height restrictions, including Geronimo.

3. Wearing metal swimwear

Metal snaps, rivets and buttons can violate slide rules.

4. Forgetting your locker lock

Lockers are free, but rental locks have a fee and deposit.

5. Assuming outside food is banned

Big Sky permits outside food and non-alcoholic drinks.

6. Cutting a non-rider wristband

That can eliminate the $10 spectator refund.

7. Ignoring cold weather

Very cold or rainy mornings can prevent opening.

8. Assuming every dry ride is included

Current full-day wording explicitly includes mini golf and ropes-course access, not every dry attraction.

9. Trying to rush Glacier + waterpark

A major sightseeing day and full waterpark ticket can be too much for one family day.
